Visual Arts

In 2006, the Danish Arts Council’s Committee for International Visual Art managed total funds of 485,000 euros. The funds are allocated via the committee’s pools for international exhibitions by visual artists, the promotion of Danish art abroad, the promotion of foreign art in Denmark and international travel by visual artists and curators.

Normally projects by students are not supported.

The application must be submitted by an application form. Specific requirements for applications are stated in the application guidelines.

The Visual Arts Centre is one of four centres within The Danish Arts Agency. The Danish Arts Agency is foremost a secretariat for the Danish Arts Foundation and the Danish Arts Council.

The Visual Arts Centre handles, for the Danish Arts Foundation, the secretarial functions of the Visual Arts Purchase and Grants Committee, the Craft and Design Committee and the Architecture Committee. Moreover, we administer works acquired by the Danish Arts Foundation under the so-called deposit plan.
For the Danish Arts Council, we handle the secretarial functions of the Committee for the Visual Arts and the Committee for International Visual Art.

In regard to the international activities and funding The Danish Arts Council's Committee for International Visual Art is responsible for the grants and for defining the operational tasks administered and put into action by the Visual Arts Centre.

Other tasks of the Viual Arts Centre involve arranging seminars, inviting international curators and art professionals on visiting programmes, responsibility for  updating the Danish Art Archive www.kunstdk.dk, giving information on Danish art in general - and so forth.

Moreover, in terms of international efforts, we participate in the Danish Arts Agency’s international coordination.

Finally, the Visual Arts Centre acts as consultant for the Ministry of Culture in cases involving visual art, which includes answering inquiries from Parliament and other inquiries from the Minister of Culture and taking part in the preparation of laws and executive orders.
