Works by 14 young contemporary artists are presented in the exhibition, which is curated by Beate Cegielska of Galleri Image and Tove Thage, in collaboration with Minseong Kim from Seoul.
New Adventures is the first collected Danish contemporary art exhibition of its kind to be shown in Seoul. The exhibition is composed of 51 photographic works, 9 video works, and 1 installation. The works deal thematically with processes and relations between people and situations, and illustrate with involvement and humor the way we live our life in modern times. They thus also deal with thoughts about how we would like to live if fantasy and fable were unleashed. Even though the exhibition can be seen as presenting common bonds between the artists, the main focus is on the individual artworks presented.
In connection with the opening at Sejul Gallery, a seminar will be held in collaboration with Kookmin University in Seoul on October 28th about Danish and Korean contemporary photography. Danish presentations will be held by Tove Thage and Anne Mette Laursen. At the same time, the artists who comprise the video art group "Bring Out the Garbage" will participate in a workshop for Korean art students.
One of the goals of New Adventures is thus to further develop dialog between Danish artists and their Asian colleagues. The curators hope to create a network of contemporary art, artistic projects, and most important of all, people. Starting in spring 2007, the exhibition will be shown at The Danish Art Space (DAS), which is part of the Danish Cultural Institute in Beijing.
The exhibition will then go on tour throughout China. An exhibition catalog contains texts and presentations of each artist, with an introduction by Minster of Culture Brian Mikkelsen, who is also patron of the exhibition.
The catalogue's English texts are also translated into Korean and Chinese.
The exhibition is funded by: The Danish Arts Council, including the Committee for Visual Arts, The Committee for International Visual Arts, The Danish Arts Agency, Aarhus Municipality's Cultural Development Fund, the Korean Arts Council, Korean Air, the Oak Foundation, Denmark, and Galleri Image.
