September 25, 2007

Danish furniture design emerged triumphant at the UK's premier contemporary design event, when the Embassy of Denmark, organiser of the Made in Denmark-stand, won the coveted award for 'Best Contribution to 100% Design' from Blueprint Magazine and the Daily Telegraph newspaper.

In the opinion of the judges, Made in Denmark - a showcase for some of the most talented Danish furniture designers - made the most creative impact of all contributors to 100% Design. The award was announced on Friday 21 September 2007.

Made in Denmark was very well received by thousands of visitors to 100% Design. With its striking logo and eye-catching pieces of furniture, it attracted a large audience, and the exhibition catalogue was in constant demand.

The stand presented a new and exciting generation of Danish furniture designers who combine the rich heritage of cabinet making with a sense of quality and a new aesthetic sensibility. Among them are award-winners Louise Campbell, Cecilie Manz and Thomas Bentzen.

Their work is rooted in the golden era of Danish design, noted for its experimental and innovative methods that explore the possibilities of wood and production techniques.

A number of the exhibiting Danish designers – including Boris Berlin, Line Depping, Rasmus Fenhann, Sebastian Holmbäck and Hans Sandgren Jakobsen - were present at the Made in Denmark-stand to tell the many visitors about their work, and Louise Campbell participated in a seminar on ‘The Best of European Design’.

The curator of Made in Denmark is Danish designer Nina Tolstrup.

Made in Denmark is supported by the Danish Arts Agency, the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Embassy of Denmark and a number of private Danish sponsors: The Knud Højgaard Foundation, the Sonning Foundation, the Augustinus Foundation, Træfonden and DSV Transport.
