Venice occupied by "Biennalists"
June 27, 2007
Thierry Geoffroy (aka. “Colonel”) has for the last few years been involved in a number of untraditional art projects. During the opening of the Venice Biennale 2007, he launched a project that involved both the biennale and the city.
Geoffroy succeeded in questioning the biennale as a stationary institution by creating a mobile exhibition, where 35 people armed with microphones recorded live at the biennale and in the city. Every night all these recordings were mixed together and then spread all over the area again.
In this way the identity of the national pavilions at the biennale were challenged, and the biennale itself became the material of the art work as well as the basis of a critical analysis.
"Biennalist" is supported by the Danish Arts Council's Committee for International Visual Art.
