Danish Writers in Great Britain
Print this page
May 3, 2007

An unusually high number of Danish novels have been published in Britain recently. Now, four critically acclaimed and best-selling authors will take part in a Danish literary tour which will include readings and discussions at literature festivals.

The following authors will participate in the tour which is sponsored by the Arts Council of England and co-sponsored by the Danish Arts Council:

  • Morten Ramsland - whose international bestseller Doghead was published in the UK on 5 April.
  • Leif Davidsen - Denmark’s acclaimed writer of political thrillers. The Serbian Dane was published in December 2006.
  • Christian Jungersen - who launched the Danish literary ‘invasion’ on these shores with The Exception in August 2006.
  • Janne Teller – whose fairytale for adults, Odin’s Island, was published in December 2006.

The tour begins in late May with a launch event in London. Ramsland and Jungersen will feature at Kensington Central Library on 23 May, while Davidsen and Teller are scheduled to meet readers at the Lambeth Readers & Writers Festival on the same day.

On 24 May, all four writers, along with two translators, will feature at a workshop at the British Centre for Literary Translation in East Anglia.

Independently of the writer’s tour, the famed Guardian Hay Festival of Literature will host Morten Ramsland in early June, and more events are planned for later in the year – including at the Edinburgh International Book Festival in August and the Cheltenham Literature Festival in October.
