2006 was a succesful year for Danish film which received in all 102 awards at international events in 2006.
Furthermore, during the year, 186 Danish film titles were screened at international festivals, adding up to 857 bookings. Feature film titles totalled 92, and were screened at 227 events. 94 short and documentary film titles were screened at 152 events. These figures are slightly higher when taking local events into consideration. The Danish Film Institute's Festival Unit works in close liaison with film producers, sales agents and festival directors, coordinating the shipment of prints of Danish films around the world.
The Topscorers
Niels Arden Oplev's Berlin winner "We Shall Overcome" swept away the largest number of international awards, 23 in all, Anders Thomas Jensen's "Adam's Apples" followed with 12, and Pernille Fischer Christensen's "A Soap", another Berlin winner, brought home 9 awards.
The Danish Bodil and Robert Awards 2007
At the Robert Awards presentation, organized by the Danish Film Academy on 4 February 2007, Niels Arden Oplev's "We Shall Overcome" took some 6 awards, which included Best Film, Best Director and Best Original Screenplay. Christina Rosendahl's "Triple Dare" won Best Children & Youth Film Award.
The Association of Press Reviewers and Journalists, who organize and present the Bodil Awards, held on 25 February, chose "A Soap" for the Best Film of the year.
Both the Bodil and Robert organizations selected "Gasolin'" as the country's Best Documentary Film of the year, "Babel" as the Best American Film, and Germany's "Das Leben der Anderen" as Best Foreign Film (USA exempt).
