Danish folk music in Canada
August 15, 2006
For two weeks this summer three Danish folk and roots bands travelled from coast to coast on a two week tour of Canada: The violin and guitar duo Haugaard & Høirup, the two young singers Karen + Helene, and the quintet Zar with the singer Sine Lahm Lauritsen in front. The tour – a result of a newly established collaboration between the Danish Folk Council and Canadian Jensen Music International – stretched from Nova Scotia and the rough Atlantic coast in the East, over the prairies of Manitoba and Alberta to British Columbia and the Pacific Ocean in the West. Guitarist Morten Alfred Høirup of Haugaard&Høirup tells of their journey.
