November 14, 2007

The performance group TeaterKunst has been granted a much sought-after Artist-in-Residence stay at the Sophiensaele theatre in Berlin. The exchange program, that takes place in the winter 2007/2008, is part of the BERLINAUT project initiated by The Danish Arts Agency and the Danish Embassy in Berlin.

During their stay TeaterKunst will be working on the project “Walls” which is inspired by the demolition of the Berlin Wall in 1989.

For TeaterKUNST this work process is part of a bigger project that deals with the Berlin Wall as physical, social, and psychological matter.

During their time in Berlin TeaterKUNST will be examining the physical as well as the non-existent walls of the city. Co-operating with artists from various countries, TeaterKUNST will approach the concept wall from a sensuous and empirical point of view through dance and interviews. The work process ends with a presentation that combines choreography and interview material.

The overall goal of the BERLINAUT project is to help evolve the Danish cultural sphere by focusing on long-termed network strategies. Within the area of performing arts the project supports Artist-in-Residence stays, through which Danish artists get the opportunity to form new professional relationships.

During the exchange process the artistic management of the Sophiensaele theatre will take on a mentor role. Moreover, the theatre will provide rehearsal space as well as technical, organisational, and dramaturgic assistance.
