The synergy that arose when East and West Berlin were reunited has spread beyond the city boundaries, and today Berlin is a metropolis where art and culture flourish on a world-class scale. Scores of Danish artists from all genres have discovered the opportunities provided by the geographic proximity of Berlin to Denmark. Many have settled down in the city; others have stayed in Denmark but choose to participate in the dynamic cultural life of Berlin in any number of ways.
In Berlin, Danish and German artists/partners are able to establish new alliances, and Danish artists can reach out to a new and different audience. As a part of an effort to increase the internationalization of Danish culture, the Danish Minister of Culture and the Danish Minister of Foreign Affairs have earmarked DKK 2 million over a two-year period to support Danish artists in Berlin. This support will create new opportunities for increased collaboration between the two countries and their artists.
Purpose
The purpose of BERLINAUT is to contribute to the internationalization of Danish cultural life. For example, by developing long-term network strategies, professional artists will be able to establish an international foothold either in Berlin – or via Berlin. In addition, the intent is to support activities that are not merely unique, discrete events but will help create more long-term relationships/contacts that, even after the project is over, can lead to greater collaboration between artists in Denmark and Berlin.
